Artists Save The World

Enter, Ashlee Jordan. She is a writer, lyricist and artist. While balancing a 9-5 in executive administration and project management, she has granted herself the space to indulge in her art of choice, the word (written and rapped), and is now learning to encompass her professional experience with her artist's.

From the written word (music and stories) to business management, she is using all skills and talents to create a more beautiful world. Watch the full interview and learn more about this woman in music bout' it:

IRL Artist In A Digital World

Enter, Ashlee Jordan’s website. She’s hardly on socials but she does have a website that plain and simply states her art’s existence and why she is here. Sigh. A nice relief from the scroll. On her website are two things: Her music and her words. Both tell her stories but in different ways. As she explains on the website’s About page:

ASHLEE reunited with her pen after a life-saving escape. Initially writing a tribute to an old friend,  a novel subsequently grew and became centered on Hip Hop. Writing lyrics for characters within the story helped to recover her own voice. "ROSE" is the first story from the semi-fictional, scripted trilogy series and is intended for younger generations. The "ASH" EP is a collection of Ashlee's very first attempts in music and music alone. Delivering smooth lyricism in an ode to self, she makes a subtle request for Hip-Hop’s attention.

I’ve listened to the ASH EP and I love the origin story of this artist. The EP as a whole is a vibe and it starts with a song titled, just that. She bursts onto the scene with confidence and classic braggadocio and goes through her swag brags before hitting “Run Away”. Each song, a wave that hits you with the cool funky sounds of West Coast PFunk vibing in the wind which is thanks to San Diego native producer/engineer, Lyrikali.

On “Run Away”, it keeps a cool bop and uptempo delivery despite the dark subject material. The armor she created through her earlier braggadocio seemed to help her skate through the dark situation that made her want to run. For the glitchez first WIMIBI session event, Ashlee was invited to participate in the live session and she chose to perform this song!

The ASH EP thankfully ends on a hopeful note with "Look At Your Life" ft. Lyrikali. A song where Jordan contemplates and assesses what she’s been through as she moves forward with renewed confidence. Hmmm. Sounds like a phoenix rising through the ASHes.

First, there was the Word.

Story time! What Jordan offers on her website platform are her stories. Her life. Her heart in hope of some sort of salvable salvation. She showcases two expressions of the word - Written and Vocalized. One expression lives as her first EP, ASH, while the second one lives as her 1st novel, ROSE.

Currently, there are excerpts of ROSE available and I've read them all. After being quickly submerged into J's world, I’m fully invested in the main character. I’m wondering what she’s going to do next because I know what I would do next type of invested! Another thing that probably helped cinch my interest are her unhinged (in a good way) cliff hangers at the end of each excerpt.

What I also love about the novel is that Jordan writes in a film script/novel fusion style with clean pivotal plot points and a dialogue format that’s easy on the eyes. Especially in this digital world.

My fave excerpt is “Troublesome” where a choice needs to be made between the question of loyalty and self-preservation i.e. love for another vs. self-love…The drama! Even though the excerpts are listed in chronological order, they can also stand alone on their own as short teaser scenes. That is a sign of great writing, in my book.

All Roads Lead to Ashlee Jordan.

Both the ASH & ROSE projects are different sides of the same coin that is Ashlee Jordan. They can stand alone but are so powerful together. Listen to the EP while reading the excerpts and one can already imagine it as the score to its future film adaptation.

Ashlee the artist is all encompassing and will adapt to help tell the story how she sees fit. And she tells you exactly how on her website. Her music and written word lives on as a page to a never ending story she deems worthy of telling.

There can be much more said about the artist, online presence and content preservation but that’s for another story and topic. We’ll leave you with one more story Ashlee deems worthy of telling: a live home session recording of “Good Lookin’”. A song where she has to let you know she’s good, don’t worry about her, she knows what she’s getting into. And the adventures of ASH & ROSE continue!
